Championship betting preview: Brighton- Brentford

Championship: Brighton- Brentford

Brentford, a dismal home performance against Burnley aside, have been playing much better than results suggest and absolutely battered Middlesbrough and Leeds United in recent home starts and only took a single point from those two games and I suspect that Boro and Unuted removed their highwayman masks after leaving Griffin Park, once the robbery was complete ! There were reasons why they never showed up until it was too late against the Clarets and we have already discussed those and James Tarkowski has since been moved on and engineered the move to Burnley that he and they wanted ! Anyway, there have been a series of very upbeat interviews from Brentford this week, my friend did one of them and he said the mood at the training ground was incredibly good and John Swift (pictured), who is on loan from Chelsea, spoke about this in midweek and about how the players were desperate to convert their form there ( at the Jersey Road training centre) into games. He also spoke about the team's desire to impress infront of the television cameras after being embarassed by that performance against Burnley , that they still thought a playoff spot was possible and his personal trget of hitting ten goals this season, he currently has four, but one did come in a previous Sky televised fixture, he is as big as 6.0-6.5 in the anytime goalscoring market.

Brighton are currently in a playoff spot , but their form has tailed off significantly and after averaging 2.16 points from their first 19 starts, they are down to 1.0 from their last nine. Included in that sequence was a point at Brentford over the holiday period, after which I wrote ............

Bees were left frustrated by their 0-0 draw with Brighton on Boxing Day, but dominated the match and never looked in danger of losing, Brighton boss Chris Hughton said: “We wanted to get back to winning ways, but they are a good team and they cause you a lot of problems with their movement and they’ve got a lot of good strikers too. "That is a little odd and Brentford do not currently play with a "real" striker. He was flattering with further comments ....."There are lots of exciting games at Brentford at the moment. "They play a brand of football which revolves around a lot of sharp players good on the ball, and they will test any opposition."

Home boss Dean Smith saw it thus: "It was a tough game, we knew it would be as it was played in blustery conditions but I thought we were excellent. Our attitude, application, intensity in how we played and I thought we made a very good team look average today and unfortunate not to get the win.

There is some "rivalry" between the two clubs with the respective owners former friends and now with little love lost between the two, Brentford have taken seven points from the three Championship h2h meetings, including a 1-0 win here last season. The Bees have scored the most away goals in the Championship and they have scored six more on the road than Brighton have managed at the AmEx and I feel odds are too big about the visitors this evening.

1.5 units Brentford +0.25 ball 2.16 asian line/Sportmarket.

Good Luck.
