Coupe de France betting preview: Montpellier- Paris St Germain

football betting tips -

We will stick with the standard 10.00 UK sending time for this midweek, as usual, I will outline the weekend schedule on Thursday, new format will be "fixed" from the Friday newsletter onwards and we have a hugely busy month ahead, as along with more football previews, we have the NFL playoffs, Australian Open tennis (starts in two weeks time) and the restart of the PGA season this week, all very exciting !

Coupe de France: Montpellier- Paris St Germain

These two lock horns again after playing out a 0-0 draw in Paris immediately ahead of the Christmas break, that result could leave the visitors looking for revenge, but I am not so sure .

Firstly , they are already battling on three fronts and need a fourth, IMO, like another hole in the head. It is not even like they are coasting in the league, they are three points adrift of Marseille and have two teams above them in the table, they have a vital league fixture at Bastia over the weekend and a Coupe de la Ligue quarter final with St Etienne next midweek and on the near horizon a Champions League double header with Chelsea which starts next month and progress tonight, could mean an additional two games to schedule in ahead of that. But wait, there is more.....

Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani have both been maughty boys and suspended by the club for returning late from the holiday break and will miss tonight and the trip to Corsica, so their strong squad is weakened and they will not wish to pick up any injuries and be further hampered for the key weekend fixture, keeper Salvatore Sirigu, Serge Aurier and Thiago Motta are also sidelined for tonight's fixture. Also and perhaps more importantly, the match will be played in the cramped conditions of the Altrad Stadium, which is the local rugby ground, as the Stade de la Mosson is still being repaired after recent flooding in the area . Lens played on the Altrad pitch recently and said it was like a ploughed field and it is going to be MUCH worse this evening as there was a rugby game played there a couple of days ago. To give you some idea of how bad the surface is, even the rugby players were said to have complained about it after the weekend fixture !

Visiting boss Laurent Blanc has been vocal with his concerns and felt the need to state that it "is still our intention to try to progress", which reading between the lines could be code for ...."we have no wish to play here, don't need it, or any injuries and it is all about the weekend" ! But I do have a vivid imagination ! Back up keeper and one or two youngsters are set to play.

Hosts have named a full squad, only really missing Sakha Tiéné and look to be treating this very seriously, which in midtable and in decent form (one loss in six) and with no outside distrations/other commitments, indeed they should. This is still a good PSG group, but all the motivation should be with the hosts and they surely should be the more committed to the competition and far more used to the playing conditions. They knocked PSG out of the cup last year in Paris and can do the same again, on "home" soil.
