Results at the weekend left Tottenham at the foot of the table and all the pressure is on them today, as it has been for most of the last two and a bit seasons. They are a Big 6 club , at least in name, but have barely been out of the bottom six for 20+ months. Ahead of their last home game against Aston Villa I noted ....

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king and Villa at least have one EPL goal to their name and kindly won 3-1 at Coventry City on Wednesday and have actually scored six in their last two away starts (EFL Cup and Champions League). Also, their three big summer signings Manzambi, Jackson and Mbaye all got more game time in midweek and we must be close to seeing the trio start together now. I am not quite as in love with Unai Emery as many others are, but I do think he is a much better head coach than RDZ and Tottenham are 1-5-7 in their last 12 EPL home games with a 12-24 goal difference and they have won just 5/35 as hosts in the league and even money quotes are useless to me and feel wrong.

Villa won 3-2, so Spurs at least got that non scoring monkey off their backs, but they were losing 3-0 before their breakthrough and both goals came after the 87th minute, basically, consolation strikes. They did then draw 1-1 at Manchester United, equalising in the 93rd minute and with 10 men after Rodrigo Bentancur had been sent off a little earlier. All credit to them for continuing to battle, but United have issues of their own and Spurs do play with greater freedom on the road. At the Tottenham Stadium things are very different, even a little toxic and, as I said recently: "home supporters just seem to be waiting for the moment they can start booing and then leave early, most of those that do stay, only do so so that they can boo again at the final whistle!"

I have never felt that RDZ was the right head coach for them and some of his comments have been odd and he has not taken much ( as in "any") personal responsibility and that is giving him the benefit of any doubt. A king's ransom and then some was spent in the off season, but no real goal threat or natural striker was signed and with one win in 13 home games (27 goals conceded) and only 5 in 36 as host,I do not think they should be circa 1.50 against any EPL side.

Coventry were promoted as champions from the Championship , but their only aim this season would have been survival and losing the first four games usually spells disaster for any EPL newcomer and we have spoken multiple times about how vital an early win is. However, they have six points on board after wins over Forest and Newcastle United and ran riot in the latter last Monday scoring four. The two wins came either side of the international break, so they will have had a winning mentality for a month and are growing into their EPL campaign. Also, three of their opening four defeats came against the top 3 in the league and Spurs are well off that standard. Coventry's xGA is 0.75 worse than Spurs, but the North London side have not faced a single top 5 teams, the Sky Blues, the top 3 and the two highest scorers by a mile in the EPL.Having said all that, City would take 17th place after 38 games in a heartbeat and Spurs have far more talent in their squad, but the odds make little sense and it always has to come back to that.

City + 1 ball at a shade over even money looks good, but I will be a little more adventurous with the line and less so than usual with the stake.....

1.75 units Coventry City +0.5 ball @ 2.62 asian line.

Good luck!
