Championship betting tip : Peterborough United- Cardiff City

Championship: Peterborough United- Cardiff City

Posh are a frustrating team to follow, being almost always one of the best teams in league 1, but not good enough for the Championship whenever they reach it. Across the last 13 seasons, they have spent 10 in the third tier, with an average finishing position of 7.0 and three in the Championship (24th/18th/22nd) with two relegations and in the year they survived, only the basement club conceded more goals.
They are trying again and three points from two games is not a bad haul, when no team has won both (which is hard to believe) , but plenty of holes to pick in performances. They lost 3-0 away to Luton on opening day (xg  2.56-0.22) and then 4-0 at home to League 1 side Plymouth in the cup which I admit will have been low priority for Posh, then beat Derby County, who's many issues I highlighted last midweek, 2-1 at home on Saturday in a crazy game. County led 1-0 entering the 92nd minute, but then conceded and did so again in the 101st minute ! United will face sterner resistance today and the truth is I expect City to compete for top six and United will do well to stay out of the drop zone and the quick turnaround favours the stronger squad.

On opening day I wrote ...........

Cardiff served us well after Mick McCarthy's appointment and this was typical of what I wrote at the time ............

City are on fire under new head coach Mick McCarthy ( an average of 2.4 points and 2.4 goals in his 10 games in charge) and up to 8th, two points off the playoff spots and only 4 points adrift of 5th place.

We have a mountain of notes on City since McCarthy took over and in early season I was championing them for a while, before being put off by a series of timid performances under the former head coach. That is never going to happen under MM and he has restored the self belief amongst a decent squad, City midfielder Will Vaulks spoke to the club website shortly after the managerial switch was made :“I think he’s shown his experience more than anything," he explained. "He’s really steadied the ship, lifted the confidence and you can feel around the place. It's a bit more upbeat and everyone’s a bit more happy.“Happy players make better players and he’s put his arm around those that have needed it. He’s not afraid to say what he thinks but also encourages you and says: ‘You’ve been brilliant but can do better at this’. His man-management skills so far have lifted us.”

8th is actually where they finished (at least avoiding that 7th place jinx) and they picked up 38 points across the 21 games that MM was at the helm and that 1.81 points pg form was 4th place level. I like the additions the club have made to an already decent squad and they would not need to improve much to make the playoffs and City are used to being competitive in the second tier, finishing in an average 6.2 place in their last 11 seasons in the Championship !

They led but had to settle for 1-1 that day, but were 2-0 for BC's and followed up with a 2-0 win at Blackpool last weekend when they were 8-2 on target attempts, 15-6 ITB, 4-0 BC's and 2.53-0.38 for xG. I expect them to follow up today.
