Japan J-League 1:
Yokohama F. Marinos- Sanfrecce Hiroshima
Cerezo Osaka- Kawasaki Frontale
Both Marinos and Cerezo won for us at the weekend, I have just checked and all of you received those notes, which were in the Friday newsletter, so I will not reproduce them today. Cerezo were "more of the same" in that we almost only ever bet them to score 2+ goals, usually on the road, but also at home to big name teams and they meet one today in Kawasaki Frontale, who have dominated J-League for much of the last decade at least until recently. The visitors play an open, even gung-ho style and their last 10 starts have averaged 4.0 goals (22-18) and all their games this season 3.32, which is 0.97 above the league average. They are a fun watch! With BTS in their last six starts and in Cerezo's last eight, which gives us a strong starting point for "our" two goals for the host, or for the game to get very stretched, as does the h2h record. Cerezo are 7-1-2 in ten meetings in Osaka, scoring 2+ in six and they have also scored 2+ in 6 of 10 games in Kanagawa.
Marinos brushed aside Urawa Reds 4-0, I touched upon some issues with the team from Saitama ahead of that, but they are a big club, top 8 and the win was emphatic. YFM scored all four goals before the break, after which they were in cruise mode, but still only allowed Reds an xGF of 0.17 for the full 90+ minutes. It was a terrific confidence boost for Marinos, they pressed well and were strong from set pieces, getting rewards for what they said they had spent additional time (beyond normal sessions) on the training pitch working on. When hard work is rewarded, it encourages more. Sanfrecce are a very good team, statistically the best in J-League in each of the last three seasons (arguably 4), but in the league, they always seem to come unstuck late on and they have finished 3-3-2 and another close but no cigar position awaits. They are also still involved in four competitions , might be low on energy and still have at least 11 games left to play, YFM just four and survival is a big motivating factor. Sanfrecce are the better team, but there are a lot of advantages in the hosts favour and odds are HUGE. Marinos are also 5-2-1 h2h as host, scoring 3+ goals in six of those eight games!
2 units Yokohama F.Marinos level ball @ 3.21 asian line.
There is some 10.0 for YFM to score 3+ for the 7th h2h game as host in nine starts and that is one fewer than they scored in the first half last week, if you can find that or close, you could try something small , 0.75 units ?
Cerezo to score twice is likely, but a little under my betting odds minimum and on this occasion I prefer.......2 units Cerezo Osaka-Kawasaki Frontale "over" 3.5 goals @ 2.20 asian line.
Good luck!

Fagiano Okayama- Cerezo Osaka
Last month I wrote ....Fagiano Okayama are the only team in the bottom half of the table who should be worse off (by 7 points and 6 goals), which has got some red flags waving wildly. They have also lost their last three starts by a combined 10-2 and it could be that a first ever J-League 1 campaign in their history, is starting to catch up on them.
They are now six games without a win and will have to raise their game to change that today and with five rounds left to play and not much left to play for, they might be difficult. Cerezo have featured heavily in my notes in the last three seasons, almost always to score 2+ goals. In their last 10 away games, they have scored 2+ in five and 3+ in four. They have scored just once in each of the last two of those, but they have not gone more than two games in a row without scoring twice in 2025.
Cerezo to score twice is the obvious call and that should be enough to claim the win, both of which appeal.
2 units Cerezo Osaka to score "over" 1.5 goals @ 2.14 asian line.
Yokohama FC- Nagoya Grampus
Yokohama F.Marinos- Urawa Reds
The two Yokohama clubs are in trouble, but both have upped their game in recent months to give themselves a survival chance. Nothing will fully be decided today, but both games feel pivotal. YFC's next two starts are away to the teams in 1st and 3rd place and Marinos play the top 3 in their four remaining games, two on the road! We do get some late season shocks in J-League, so it will not be a totally lost cause without a win today, but so much easier with three points and a win for YFC could bring Nagoya into the mix too.
At the end of last month I noted.....Yokohama FC should be 8 points and 8 goals better off (expected numbers) and they found their way past Machida, Cerezo and Vissel in the League Cup to further highlight what they are or should be capable of in the league.
They have three clean sheets and seven points from their last three home games and also have a 2-0 win over two time champions Vissel Kobe in the cup sandwiched in between those and are now without League Cup distractions.
Marinos have finished top 2 in four of the last six seasons and played in the AFC Champions League Elite final in one of the others (last season) so it is still strange to see them at the foot of the table, but no club is too big to go down. Having said that, the core of that elite team is "in there" somewhere. They host Urawa Reds who feel like they have been going through the motions in recent weeks and they have scored just one goal in five starts and are winless in seven trips to play YFM, losing six and conceding 19 goals.
