Young and "old " in Dunkerque

USLD have featured heavily in my notes in the last two seasons and most of you will know they are an ambitious and well run club, albeit without quite the financial clout of some others in this league. They finished 4th in 2024/25 and reached the Coupe de France semi final that season, losing to PSG after leading 2-0 for 20 minutes or so. Last season they started slowly, but put in a run at the playoff spots before finishing 10th. They look to be going for it this season and opened with a 4-2 win over Grenoble last weekend and, if anything, the scoreline was a little flattering to the visitors. They have a very young group, 10 who featured last week were aged 18-23 . Therefore, it made sense that they have signed a 37yo WC winner in Steven Nzonzi, who will play in front of fellow veteran CB and captain Opa Sangantem to form a ridiculously experienced spine with a bunch of talented youngsters to do all the running! 20 yo Victor Mayela is a CB with the ball playing skill of an AM and scored a goal last week I still cannot quite believe. 23 yo striker Egor Prutsev has just signed from Crvena zvezda and scored a brace on his debut and 21 yo RW Khalil Ayari is on loan from PSG who have recently signed him from Tunisia where he is already a full international and he could be anything. Also newly arrived is GK Maxence Prevot who has played 200+ games in Ligue 2.
