Next three months...
May will be very busy at clubgowi with the final rounds of the big European leagues, playoff games, Europa/Conference and Champions League semi final second legs and finals, two Signature PGA events, along with the second golf major of the year and quite a bit more besides.
June and July will be dominated by the World Cup which runs from June 11- July 19 with games on 35 of those 39 days, as many as six on some. It is the biggest ever version of the competition featuring 48 teams, which is too many IMO. I will hold my hands up here and admit that the big international competitions do not thrill me like they used to and I feel that playing 72 group stage games to whittle down 48 teams to 32 is fairly pointless and needless. However, this particular version of the World Cup has additional interest and quite a lot of it, given all the travel/ weather/ timing/ altitude/ long European season players and staff will have to deal with and so much more besides and taking all that into consideration is what I feel is my forte and I touched upon all this during last summer's Club World Cup.....
This extended Club World Cup has been pretty unusual and a good dress rehearsal for next summer's World Cup as there has been so much beyond the ability of players and teams to consider.
The weather with some games played at midday in sky high temperatures , in sticky , stormy conditions , allied to travel, odd kick off times arranged with the big overseas football markets in mind and quick turnarounds, have made this a thinking sports bettor's competition and all the better for that.
Bayern Munich based themselves in Orlando and have played in Cincinnati (1,500km away), then Miami ( a four hour drive from Miami) with a nine hour difference between kick off times and just a handful of days to adjust, then finish in Charlotte, where it is going to be gruelling in the extreme!
Juventus had a very easy win over Al Ain to start their tournament, but played in Washington in the late game, then in midday madness in Philadelphia with again, a nine hour difference between the start times, which, with such a quick turnaround, is/was, I feel, significant. If you play @ 21:00, that probably means getting to bed at 2-3 am earliest and then playing three days later when you have barely digested breakfast, which will not be "breakfast" in any case, is not usual and Juve will have had a lot of travel too. They are based in Greenbrier, West Virginia (why?), that is four hours from Washington, six from Philly and a two hour flight from Orlando where they play on Matchday 3!
Please, please, please do not bet without giving full consideration to everything surrounding these games (any games really) as there can be a lot of factors which can influence things way before teams take to the pitch.
The whole of June and the first three weeks of July will be given over entirely to the competition with the exception of three golf tournaments ( two majors). I have already started planning a five part World Cup preview which I will release in build up every two days starting June 1st.
