WGC Bridgestone Invitational betting preview : Justin Rose

football betting tips -

Europa League football and golf in today's newsletter, along with the schedule for the weekend ahead when we have five emails covering three very busy days. You have seen quite a few football previews in recent days so I have decided to post notes about one of our golf selections from the WGC event .....

WGC Bridgestone Invitational:

Reduced field event (78 golfers) which is always played at Firesone GC South, Akron, Ohio, a very long Par 70 with only two Par 5's and one of those, the 16th, at a whopping 667 yards, is out of reach for even the longest hitters on Tour. It is a course where players who have done well previously tend to do so again (horses for courses) and most of those have one thing in common and that is driving the ball well *the "old" Tiger aside) and being in good position off the tee and long(ish) is going to be paramount this week, IMO. I like Justin Rose and xxxx xxxx against the field and expect both to go well and at least one to be bang in contention coming down the straight on Sunday evening.

Rose won for us at good odds at the end of April when I wrote ........

I would like to highlight the chance of Justin Rose this week, he has played here at the TPC Louisiana course in each of the last three years, finishing T10, T15, T8 , with his last 11 rounds under par and nine of those in the 60's, this is clearly a track which suits him and Rose seems sure to go well. This is his first appearance since going close at the Masters where he finished T2, were it not for Jordan Spieth, who was an exceptional winner, the British player would have probably claimed the green jacket and would have done so in most previous years. He was very un - Rose like through his first four starts of 2015, which included three missed cuts and a lowly finish, but there were clear signs things were coming together at the Shell Houston Open where he played well over the first two days, before fading at the weekend, he held it together over all four rounds in the first major of the year and posted his highest ever finish at Augusta. He has gone deep in the Masters twice before, T8 in 2012, finishing 10th here in his next start and T5 in 2007, when he did not play in the US again until the Open, when he was again 10th. He is very much a golfer who holds his form once he finds it and feels like a winner about to happen, he is normally at his best in early summer and will doubtless be eyeing up another US open title, but if he is to win before then, it is as likely to be here as almost anywhere.

I spoke about Rose's consistency and how his game is largely focused around the big events nowadays in one of the first ever posts on the clubgowi website, which you can read on this link. Whilst this is not one of the premium events, it is a course where he has played well at previously and I feel he will want some kind of verification that his game is indeed back to where it should be and that the changes he has made in recent months to his diet are paying dividends. Rose has dropped some 5 kilos and been on a gluten free diet very similar to Novak Djokovic and he says he is much "meaner and leaner." He said: "I went on a bit of a diet to help my allergies. I have given up gluten like Djokovic." It worked for him - he is a little whippet - and I feel so much better for it. "My joints feel amazing, no soreness, no early-morning creeks, it has been amazing."  Adding: "I'm really excited about the rest of the year now, iIt's a good momentum starter for me, this year for me is going to be about April to September when the big tournaments come around and that's when I want to play well."

After his win I added "Rose closed out the tournament wonderfully well and as I suggested on Thursday, early summer is really his time of year and he is very likely to win, or go extremely close again over the next 8-9 weeks and we will be closely monitoring him."

He went close at the Memorial just a few weeks later finishing in a tie for 2nd and again at the Open where he was T6, he was T4 last week at another Robert Trent Jones designed course with many similarities to Firestone. He drove the ball like a god there and has finished top five here on four occasions, including in two of the last three years. The 35 yo British golfer is focused almost exclusively on the biggest tournaments now and will always be looking to peak at or around a slam ( PGA Chapionship next week) he has gone deep in the tournament preceding a slam in each of the last five years, including posting a win and two seconds and, being very near the top of his game currently, he seems sure to go close once again this week. The changes he made to his diet and even his slow start to his golfing year ( see above) probably mean he is better equipped going into the final stretch of the season than he has been for some time and Rose is reaping the benefits at the moment and can continue to do so until the end of next month and the conclusion of the 2015 campaign.
