Serie A: Genoa- Bologna
This is now a friendly with Genoa relegated and they had to sit at home and watch last week as thousands of Sampdoria supporters took to the streets of the city to celebrate that in payback for Genoa fans doing the same in 2011............ football supporters have long memories and revenge is a dish best served cold ! Hopefully, Genoa will want to end on a high and at least provide their long suffering fans with some excitement and they have one of the better opponents in Italy to help in that regard and Bologna's last two starts have been a 4-3 defeat at another relegated team and 3-1 home loss to Sassuololast weekend, when my notes went a lot like this .................
These two clubs are both going to finish somewhere between 10th-13th, so this is a "friendly" and the prize money we have already discussed is not quite the same in Serie A and far less of a consideration.
Most of you know where we stand with Sassuolo, they are a team we love and have done unbelievably well with and they play with great freedom and without fear on the road, with games averaging 3.83 goals this season. Their 34 away goals scored is bettered only by league leaders Milan and compares favourably to just 24 scored at home by Bologna, who's upturn in form ended with a 4-3 defeat away to basement club Venezia last time out, that was a wild and crazy game and might easily have produced even more goals. The visitors will be up for this local derby and have all their offensive talent back today for the first time in several weeks and will be looking for a third straight win in this stadium, winning 2-1 and 4-3 on the last two visits. More of the same in prospect.
Four goals was the absolute minimum that game could have produced and there were a lot of missed chances. It was a similar tale when these two sides met in Bologna in the early season, that finished 2-2 ( 22 attempts ITB, 6 BC's, 7 saves). Goals !
