Last 17 seasons:  Teams finishing 3rd have won seven times, the team in 4th five ,  6th on three occasions, the side who ended in 5th just twice and that was 16 seasons ago and last season, so a 15 year gap in between, but possible Sunderland have put an end to that jinx, Bolton Wanderers will certainly hope so, as will clubgowi!

 

In terms of points won in h2h round robin matches (games between the four teams this season): Bolton Wanderers 11 points, Barnsley 10, Sheffield Wednesday 7 and Peterborough United 6.

Points picked up over the second half of the season :  Sheffield Wednesday 50 ( +4 over first 23 games), Barnsley 46 (+6) , Bolton 44 (+7) and Peterborough 42 (+7). It is unusual for all four to improve and roughly by similar levels (between 4-7 points).

 

Across the last 10 games: Posh 20 pts, Bolton 18, Wednesday 18 and Barnsley 14.

 

Sheffield Wednesday are the biggest club by far in what was a League 1 full of them this season and having been top 2 between January 2nd and April 7th and as much as 8 points clear of the team in third with a game in hand as late as early March, they will be devastated to have missed out on automatic promotion. But even that doesn't tell the full story as they finished with 96 points, a total that is higher than the two automatically promoted clubs in each of the last three seasons. Also, they have had to sit back and watch their cross-town rivals ,United, get promoted back to the Premier League.
