France: Ligue 2 betting preview: Bourg en Bresse Peronnas 01- Dijon

football betting tips -

Ligue 2 almost always takes centre stage for us on Friday at this time of year and today is no different and clubgowi subscribers have already received four full match previews from the second tier of French football, you can read notes from one of those below, but always remember....... the bigger picture !

France: Ligue 2: Bourg en Bresse Peronnas 01- Dijon

I discussed the hosts in midweek ahead of their trip to Brest in the Coupe de la Ligue.....

I had very serious doubts about the visitors being strong enough to survive coming into this Ligue 2 season and, pointless and having conceded five goals after two matches, there has been very little to make me change my mind. They appear to be making limited rotation this evening, but I suspect that is more from a paucity of options than anything else.

Ahead of their season opener I wrote this about Brest .....

Brest are a bit of an old fashioned Ligue 2 team in that they are far too often happy to settle for a point, especially on the road and in modern football, that is not going to win many friends or trophies ! They had a very solid look about them last season defensively and only runaway champions Troyes conceded fewer goals, but only one team outside the bottom five scored more and the problem this time round is that the watertight defence has been torn apart and whilst replacements might be perfectly adequate, it is hard to see how they could be anywhere near as good, let alone better. Both starting defensive midfielders in Johan Ramare ( only missed six starts in the last two seasons ...two wins, one over a later relegated team) has moved to Sochaux, Birama Toure has returned to Nantes, goalkeeper Alexis Thébaux has departed for Paris FC , he sat out only five matches in the last three seasons ( four defeats and ten goals conceded) and left back Wilfried Moimbe(Nantes) and centre back Ismael Traore (Angers) who were rated amongst the best defenders in L2 last season have also moved on .

That is a huge amount of talent to lose in one off season and all were key defenders in what was an incredibly defensive minded team who were all about keeping things tight and looking to steal a goal, especially on the road. I am not going to completely write off Brest yet, but will need to see the replacements in action before backing them and for now, they look vulnerable.

They have actually kept back to back clean sheets in the league and have four points on board after a 2-0 home win over Nimes at the weekend, the jury is very much still out on that opponent, but a win is a win, however, I am still not fully convinced about them, they should win this if they take the competition seriously and looking at the team news, they certainly seem to be and they will want to keep the momentum they have built up,  ahead of a tricky trip to Nancy in three days time. BEB have managed a goal in both starts and will need at least one to get anything from this, I would not totally rule out a shock away win, as even being in the competition is probably a big deal for the visitors.

They served us well there, with the match "over" before the break and then forcing a late equaliser and extra time before winning on penalties and landing that "upset" progression. They look short on quality overall, have played extra time with limited rotation, with a long midweek trip to Brest and back (circa 1,900km ) thrown in for good measure, they have the lowest budget in Ligue 2 and are playing home games over 100 km away from Peronnas in Gueugnon, so almost nothing in their favour. HOWEVER, despite all that, I am starting to feel that there is something about them, they have a little spirit, have scored in each game, also missed a penalty in the 3-1 home loss with Le Havre which could/should have been a game changer and I have just watched highlights of that loss at Creteil last Friday, where in truth, a draw was the least they deserved and defeat was an injustice.

It would be great for them and good for Ligue 2 if they could get a result today, but I doubt it will come along with a clean sheet, the home side have already conceded seven in three starts, at least two in each and are facing a talented Dijon side who have scored six in their last two, with Julio Tavares (pictured) who is vital to how Dijon play in road games, something we have touched upon a lot in the past, scoring three. They have finished top 7 in each of the last three seasons, but have been higher in the table each year at the half way stage and have too often flattered to deceive, but they have again got off to a decent start and might be at their best now and in the next couple of months, rather than over the second half of the campaign. They are without striker Lois Diony tonight, but that is more than offset by the return of Varrault and Bamba to defence, after the pair were rested in midweek. I guess if you twisted my arm to pick a winner, I would probably opt for DFCO, but I suspect they will need two goals and possibly three to claim it and odds wise, I much prefer .......
