MLS: LAFC- Houston Dynamo (written 11/10.......09.00)

We opposed Dynamo for their trip to Seattle on Monday and they have stayed on the West Coast (six days in total) for this quick turnaround and match up with another post season bound team in LAFC. Ahead of the game with Sounders my notes included............

Dynamo arrive with very little to play for, they can only really finish 9th or 10th, they have won the US Open Cup, so qualified for Champions League football and have only collected 8 road points all season. Hard to see what their real motivation is, or, even if they have some, how it can compare to that of Sounders  and the home side are just playing on a different level and have collected 22 more points than Dynamo since the first week in June. They have also dominated this fixture in Seattle with a 7-3-0 record since 2009, conceding just two goals.

If Houston have any fight left, I think they will save it for their final home game which is actually against Sounders the week after next.

Seattle led 2-0 after 34 minutes and could then coast, eventually winning 4-1 with Dynamo scoring an 88th minute consolation.

It is tough for footallers to spend almost a week away from home in hotels, there is a lot of down time, in pre season it is fine, you have been away from the group for 5-6 weeks and can do double or extended training sessions and meet new team mates etc, at this stage of the campaign, it just adds to tiredness , boredom creeps in and it is a long time to be away from family and friends.

LAFC are third on 53 points, level with Sporting KC, four behind FC Dallas, with three games left to play, the top two still have to face each other, the leaders have also to travel to play DCU which we all know by now will not be easy and LA have back to back very win-able home games, followed by a season ending trip to play SKC. The race for #1 is still on and second spot has great value in terms of the post season, so everything to play for and LAFC will be in great position for top 2 should they win today. The hosts are top goalscorers in the West and only Atlanta United have averaged more goals per game in MLS.

Dynamo were without right winger Alberth Elis (11 goals and eight assists.........0-0-3 in his absence) and left winger Romell Quioto (5 goals and 8 assists) who are on international duty, they are in the squad for Honduras' game with the UAE which is being played in Barcelona on Thursday, don't see then flying back across nine time zones on a 12+ hour flight immediately afterwards for this (it is "impossible") and even if they did, what state would they be in ? 16 goals and 16 assists, even allowing for some overlap is a huge loss on both flanks for a team who have only scored 51 goals total.  Handicap is big, but good chance that Dynamo could again let this run away from them, if and when LA take the lead and as host they are fast starters and have +13 (goal difference) before the break, so a good chance that they will.
