Premier League: Leeds United - Wolverhampton Wanderers

I sided with Wanderers for their derby game at Aston Villa last week ............

Only one point between these two and in favour of Villa, but Wolves are +2 for xP and have a big advantage in terms of a net +13 for BC and +25 ITB and the visitors have been unlucky in in 4-5 games , especially in narrow defeats to Spurs and Man Utd where they created enough chances in 180 minutes to have won 3-4 matches. They won two starts immediately before the break with two goals from Hee-Chan Hwang and a goal and two assists from Raul Jimenez, the two are building an understanding and the Mexican international looks like he is returning to his best form (30 goals and 14 assists total in 18/19 and 19/20). Villa have "won" only one game for BC's, Wolves have "lost" just one and I like the visitors off level ball at these quotes.

Things looked bleak when Villa were 2-0 up with just a quarter of the game remaining, but the visitors refused to give up and once they scored one, it was traffic only in one direction and the equaliser always felt like it was coming and afterwhich, so did the late, late winner, which was celebrated wildly by both players and supporters alike. The team bus must have been jumping on the 30-40 minute drive back to Molineux and the players will have been able to bask in that feeling for seven days and be able to travel up to Leeds in buoyant mood.

I hardly dare comment on what sort of mood the United players would have been in after their 1-0 loss at Southampton, a scoreline which scarcely reflets the Saints superiority and Leeds managed just 2 attempts ITB and one on target and after thrilling every neutral last season upon their return to the Premier League, this looks a very sorry version of Leeds United. Their only win this season was over what I think is a poor Watford team and there are some real issues with the home side. Some might be down to second season syndrome and many teams suffer that, but there is more to consider. Teams coached by Marcelo Bielsa do tend to eventually go backwards, he likes to work with a small group of players , that means limited rotation and they are all asked to run themselves into the ground and many of this group have been doing so for what is now a 4th season. Last season United used the fewest players in the EPL, but ran the most and last week they were outworked by Southampton, something we had not seen before against United. Patrick Bamford scored 17 goals last season and is woefully out of form this time round, but is not getting a lot of service , he Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips were all missing last week (amongst others) and that trio are absolutely vital to how United play, especially Phillips who just suddenly looks a little worn out and he is not alone. It appears all three will be sidelined again this weekend, United have lost 9/10 EPL starts when Phillips is absent.
