Serie A ..........Atalanta scoring for fun!

Serie A: Juventus- Atalanta
Juventus got a 15 point deduction earlier this week following an investigation into the club's transfer dealings, they are appealing of course and doubtless it will take a while to finally play out, but is hardly a positive. To be honest, it has made no difference to me, as I had already decided to jump back onboard the good ship Atalanta in the coming weeks and they served us well at home in the Coppa Italia on Thursday when they beat Spezia 5-2........
The Coppa Italia is dominated by the top teams and it is 21 years since we had a non-Big 6 winner. Atalanta have been pushing to make that a Big 7 in recent years, finishing 4-7-3-3-3-8 in the last six seasons, playing Champions League football in three straight campaigns and they are 6th currently , only four points off second place and finally building up a head of steam, after scoring 12 goals in their three post World Cup starts. They have played in two of the last four Coppa finals and with no European commitments this season, can give this their full attention. At the weekend they hosted Salernitana and I noted ........
Atalanta have kept just one home clean sheet in 13 starts in Bergamo, they have conceded 2+ goals in 6/9 games and both teams have scored in their last five.
They won that 8-2! Perhaps a little flattering, but they had 19 attempts on goal, 13 ITB and 13 on target, going 4-2 for BC's.
Spezia are 16th, but do have a nine point buffer over the bottom three. Survival is their priority and their next three home games are visits from Roma, Napoli and Juventus, so could quickly get sucked into the real relegation battle, but I suppose they can at least give this a go. The two teams met in Spezia 15 days ago and that finished 2-2 , it was also 2-2 for BC's but Atalanta bossed things and were 19-7 attempts, 16-4 ITB. Atalanta won the two h2h meetings in Bergamo in the last two seasons 3-1 and 5-2 and something very similar looks on the cards this evening.
Atalanta do have a big game with Juve on Sunday, so might be tempted to rotate a little, but surely better to keep the momentum high now that they have finally found it and any players coming in will have to up their game if they want to impress/keep their spot.
Both bets were based around goals and were secured quite early and Atalanta suddenly feel like the good old version of themselves once more, where they are enjoying their football and scoring for fun. That's 17 goals in four starts now and whilst a trip to Turin to face the Old Lady is never easy, the Bergamo side have scored five in four unbeaten h2h visits here and with Juve having conceded six goals themselves in the last nine days, it has to be .........
