Ipswich Town- Bristol City

In the second week of January I wrote ............

Ipswich Town's 37 yo head coach Kieran McKenna has just completed two years in the job and it has been incredibly successful. When he took charge, the club had 29 points from 23 games in League, they took 41 points from the next 23 which is playoff level and they were promoted with 94 points in his first full season at the helm. They have hit the Championship running and few teams do that, sitting second this morning.

It has been a remarkable turnaround and a lot of credit must go to McKenna and he is said to be on the radar of at least two EPL clubs. However, they are having a mini blip, almost the first since his arrival and they are five games without a win (four draws) and scoring just once in the last four of those and what was a ten point lead over the team in third approaching Christmas is now down to just three and the pressure levels are on the rise

That blip extended to one win in nine and not only did their 10 point lead evaporate, they found themselves in 4th and 4 points off the automatic spots. However, the Championship road is long with many turns and the Tractor Boys have won five straight and are back in second place and huge incentive for them to win this evening. Having said that, their games are usually fun and wide open affairs and 45 goals conceded is 14+ more than the other top 3 sides and 27 allowed at home is the third most in the second tier. We spoke about this a lot earlier in the campaign and not much has changed and their last two home games were wins over bottom of the table Rotherham (4-3) and struggling Birmingham (3-1) and there were an incredible 18 BC's in the two fixtures.

Bristol City arrive probably already planning for next season and might also have one eye on their home game with Swansea at the weekend after losing the Severn derby on home soil to Cardiff City a couple of days ago. Both teams have scored in City's last four away starts and that feels very likely this evening.

Coventry City- Rotherham United

City might have been distracted by their FA Cup run and they have a quarter final with near neighbours Wolverhampton Wanderers in 11 days time. They lost their last two games either side of the 5th round, conceding 5 goals and have fallen to 9th, five points off playoff pace and need to return to winning ways this evening. It doesn't get much "easier" than facing the team who are bottom and 19 points from safety, but nothing is ever really "easy" in the Championship and United have no option but to throw everything at the hosts and they have scored 9 goals in their last 7 away games, including 3 at Ipswich (2nd) and they led in four of those. The reverse fixture was one of their just three wins this season (2-0) and that will both give them hope and also ensure that City are out for revenge. This fixture ended 2-2 last season, something along those lines this evening but more likely along with a home win.

2.5 units both teams to score and "over" 2.5 goals @ 2.60 asian line.

Good luck!
