I wrote early in preseason about the hard work Steven Cooper and his staff had to put in at Nottingham Forest over the summer. LINK.
You did not have to be Hercule Poirot to have worked that out, but I do not think that many others realised quite the extent to which Forest had to build, starting almost from scratch.
They have signed 21 players this window !
Morgan Gibbs-White, Emmanuel Dennis, Taiwo Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Orel Mangala, Remo Freuler, Moussa Niakhaté, Omar Richards, Brandon Aguilera, Lewis O'Brien, Giulian Biancone, Harry Toffolo, Hwang Ui-jo, Cheikhou Kouyaté, Jesse Lingard, Wayne Hennessey, Dean Henderson, Renan Lodi, Josh Bowler, Willy Boly, Loic Bade.
It is not easy to work out how much they have spent, certainly not much came in the other directions, circa £150m was spent in transfer fees, but if we add in signing on fees for "free transfers" , we must be talking about £200m and the salary bill will be enormous.
Brave, stupid ? Only time will tell, but it was a crazy/foolish position to find themselves in and they have a lot of eggs in their survival basket !
